Finding funding opportunities 12x faster using AI-assisted research

12× faster donor research27 funding opps found
Read the case study

Context

Finding foundation, bilateral, and other non-U.S. government funding required serial manual searches that could consume two working days—time urgently needed for strategy and relationship-building.

Action

The participant used enterprise-approved AI tools with voice and chat to refine the research approach, then batch-researched donor profiles using live web sources and approved internal documents.

Impact

They identified 27 opportunities totaling $33M in under two hours. Donor research fell from roughly 1.5 days to under 45 minutes, returning time to prioritization, relationships, and delivery.

Responsible AI in practice

  • Verified every output against primary sources.
  • Excluded outdated information and shared no confidential partner data.
  • Kept strategic framing and final prioritization in human hands.
Building a content calendar

One month of content planned and scheduled in one day

4–6 hours saved each week1 month planned in one day
Read the case study

Context

Research, content planning, and scheduling were spread across tools and required repetitive manual work. The team wanted to protect its voice while reducing creative fatigue and administrative effort.

Action

The participant created dedicated AI assistants for content and research, then connected a Google Sheets content calendar with Google Calendar and Canva AI. The full process was documented in one shared system for team members to replicate.

Impact

The new workflow saved an estimated four to six hours of manual input each week and made it possible to plan and schedule a month of content in one day.

What made the workflow reusable

  • Documented tools, prompts, and decisions in one shared system.
  • Separated research, content development, and scheduling into clear steps.
  • Built on the team’s existing calendar and communications tools.
Analyzing complex data

Data analysis and reporting completed 75% faster

75% less time per site108 sites analyzed
Read the case study

Context

Analyzing reef-health data and preparing a report took about eight hours for each protected area. With 108 sites and plans to expand to 200, the team needed a more scalable process.

Action

The participant used enterprise-approved AI tools to analyze Excel datasets, generate structured one-page reports, and create visuals. Outputs from different tools were compared with the source data and with human assessments.

Impact

Analysis and reporting time fell by 75%, while report structure and clarity improved. Staff could redirect time towards planning better interventions.

Responsible AI in practice

  • Checked AI outputs against trusted source data.
  • Compared reports with human assessments before distribution.
  • Used focused prompts and retained scientific judgment with the team.
Managing projects and work

Board meeting prep reduced from a couple of days to a couple of hours

Days → hours turnaround1 reusable template
Read the case study

Context

Recurring board-liaison and operations tasks relied on cumbersome manual processes, including preparing board meeting minutes.

Action

The participant used Copilot and Grammarly to create a reusable template that streamlined how board minutes were prepared.

Impact

The workflow reduced the manual work required for board operations and compressed a process that took a couple of days into a couple of hours.

Why the workflow was practical

  • Focused AI on a bounded, recurring administrative task.
  • Turned the output into a template that could be reused.
  • Integrated the tools into an existing board-operations process.

Results are drawn from participant work in previous facilitator-led AI learning programs. Details have been shortened or anonymized.

A few practical questions

Before you apply

Is this right for me?

Our program is designed for enthusiasts and skeptics alike. Wherever you stand on that spectrum, curiosity, openness to experimentation, and a willingness to explore the edges of what AI can and can’t do — in a safe, friendly environment — are what set successful participants apart.

Typical profiles of successful participants include civic and nonprofit professionals, including executive directors, program managers and officers, communicators, researchers, fundraisers, and journalists. They might feel that they are only scratching the surface of what AI can do for them, or that they want to better understand its risks before deciding how to use it. Others might not use it at all and feel worried they’re falling behind.

This experience is designed for people with no coding or technical background. The brief Application form will help us assess whether you are too advanced for the content.

I’m skeptical about AI because of its negative impacts. Is this right for me?

A useful analogy: Imagine it’s 100 years ago, and cars are beginning to hit the production line — bringing with them concerns about job displacement, noise and environmental pollution, corporate conglomeration, and safety.

This accelerator is driver’s ed in the early days of cars: It’s for people who want to learn to drive the car effectively in a safe, friendly environment — discussing guardrails, exploring how the engines work, and taking turns behind the wheel — even if the roads are still bumpy and unpaved.

If that describes you, consider applying. But if you’re not comfortable getting behind the wheel right now, we totally understand. This program might not be a good fit right now.

Can’t I learn this for free?

Truthfully? It depends. If time or budget barriers are too high for you right now, or if you prefer a lightweight learning experience, there are some outstanding self-paced learning opportunities available for free. We particularly like Claude Academy’s AI Fluency course.

But if you’re someone whose learning benefits from a schedule to keep you on top of things, the energy that a live session or community of peers brings, opportunities to ask questions, or learning by doing with feedback from instructors—those are harder to find for free, and they’re part of what makes this course special.

What will the live sessions be like?

Live sessions are highly acclaimed, interactive, virtual workshop experiences. In each session, your facilitators — who are certified trainers by leading AI providers like the OpenAI Academy — will lead you through short explanations, live demonstrations, guided experimentation, and discussion.

These are highly participatory sessions, and the final session of this accelerator will feature presentations by participants. More details will be shared during the program.

How much time should I set aside?

Between the 90-minute live sessions and optional practice sprints (homework) and coaching, plan for about two hours per week — more if you spend more time with the material and community.

As you evaluate your availability, remember that for those celebrating holidays in late November, there's no session the week of November 23, 2026.

What do I need to participate technically?

Join from a quiet place with reliable Wi-Fi and a computer with a working microphone and speakers or headphones. Live sessions take place on Google Meet, so you will need an up-to-date web browser that supports that free videoconference software. We will share the meeting link and any preparation guidance before the cohort begins.

Participants are encouraged to join with multiple screens — to follow the live session on one screen, and practice in AI tools on the other — but that is not required.

How does one-on-one coaching work?

There will be opportunities for participants to sign up for short 1:1 coaching with one of your facilitators. Bring a specific challenge, an experiment, or a question. Booking details will be shared with the cohort.

These coaching sessions are consistently among the highest rated components of our program. Although they’re optional, they are a great opportunity to connect with your instructor to have a tailored conversation about your own AI questions, workflows, or strategy.

Do I need paid AI tools or new accounts?

You can follow the demonstrations and participate in discussions without any paid accounts, but some features may need the lowest paid-tier consumer subscription to AI tools, or enterprise AI tool access. You’ll share more details about your tool access in the application, so we can help assess fit.

No one will be required to pay for a tool or create an account they are not comfortable using.

Is the accelerator tied to one AI tool?

No. The accelerator is tool-agnostic. Your facilitators have deep experience teaching major LLM tools, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, and they focus on transferable skills you can use across platforms: prompting, verification, responsible use, workflows, and everyday tips and tricks.

The particular tools featured in your sessions are selected by your facilitators based on a variety of factors — including last-minute decisions based on how much usage quota remains in their own accounts! In many cases, you’ll be able to replicate your facilitators’ demonstrations in your preferred tool, even if the experience looks a little different.

What about privacy and sensitive information?

Responsible use is part of the learning throughout. We will discuss verification, bias, privacy, organizational policies, and when human judgment must lead.

You’ll often be invited to share your work, including sharing your screen if you are comfortable. When sharing any work, use public, sample, or appropriately anonymized material for exercises, and follow your organization’s rules.

Is there a capstone or homework?

There is no formal capstone project. Optional Practice Sprints help you try something useful between sessions. In our final session, you’ll share a specific, achievable idea to tackle after the program. Your facilitators will share more details later. It’s simple, low-stakes, and no slides are required.

Can I join as an independent consultant or individual?

This cohort is open to participants representing organizations or joining independently. The application will ask you to share the organization you’re representing, if any.

How do I earn the certificate?

To receive your certificate, show up as your authentic, curious self to all five 90-minute sessions, and complete a final program survey.

What if the dates or language do not work for me?

Join the future-cohort interest list and tell us your time zone and preferred language. Spanish-language cohorts are planned for the future, let us know if you are interested. We will also share upcoming Salons and other opportunities. This cohort is taught in English.

What happens after I apply?

We review applications for fit and available places on a rolling basis. If accepted, you will receive enrollment information and a secure payment link. Applying does not involve payment or guarantee a place. You’ll be registered once we receive that information and the payment.

The last payment deadline is October 30, 2026. Please review the Accelerator Terms, including payment and cancellation details, before enrolling.

Program terms

Democracy+AI Accelerator Terms

Last updated October 4, 2026

These plain-language terms supplement the New Democracy Studio Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. New Democracy Studio is a project of Five Suns Global, LLC (“we”). By accepting a place, paying the program fee, or participating, you agree to these terms.

1. Enrollment and payment

An application does not guarantee acceptance or a seat. Your seat is confirmed only after written acceptance and payment by the stated deadline. Fees are in U.S. dollars unless we say otherwise. Early-bird pricing applies only when the stated requirements and deadlines are met. Payment services may be provided by a third party under its own terms; we do not intentionally store full payment-card details.

2. Cancellations, transfers, and credits

You may request a full refund within seven calendar days of payment, provided we receive the request before the first live session. Disclosed payment-processing fees may be non-refundable. After that window, fees are non-refundable because we reserve a limited seat and program resources. Before the program begins, you may request a transfer to another eligible participant or a credit toward a future cohort, subject to fit and availability. We consider serious emergencies case by case and apply exceptions consistently.

3. Changes or cancellation by us

We may reasonably adjust dates, facilitators, guests, tools, or session content. If we cancel the full program, we will refund the program fee. If a material rescheduling prevents you from participating, you may choose a refund or future-program credit. We are not responsible for separate costs you choose to incur, such as software, internet, or equipment.

4. Respect, access, and participation

This is a professional learning space for adults. Treat participants and facilitators with respect; harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and disruptive or unsafe conduct are not permitted. We aim to provide reasonable accommodations—contact us as early as practical so we can work with you. We may remove a participant for serious or repeated violations, ordinarily after notice when appropriate; fees may not be refunded in that circumstance. Final admissions decisions are made by people, not solely by automated systems.

5. Privacy and fair data practices

We collect only information reasonably needed to review applications, process payment, deliver the program, support participants, meet legal obligations, and improve the experience. We do not sell participant information or use it for targeted advertising. Optional demographic or access information will not be used to disadvantage an applicant. We limit access, use service providers only as needed, and retain information only while it serves a stated operational, legal, or recordkeeping purpose. You may request access, correction, or deletion as described in our Privacy Policy.

We will not publish your name, image, quotation, or work as a testimonial or case study without permission.

6. Cohort privacy, recordings, and AI tools

Respect other participants’ stories and materials; do not share them outside the cohort without permission. The cohort is collaborative, not legally confidential, so do not bring classified, highly sensitive, or improperly disclosed personal information. Participants may not record sessions. We will provide advance notice before any organizer recording and seek consent where required.

Third-party services—including Google Meet, WhatsApp, payment providers, and AI tools—have their own terms and privacy practices. Follow your organization’s policies, use public, sample, or properly anonymized material, and keep human judgment in the loop.

7. Materials and ownership

You keep ownership of the material and ideas you bring or create. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to access, reproduce, adapt, display, and use material you choose to share for three limited purposes: delivering the program, providing feedback, and evaluating or communicating the program’s impact. Public impact communications may include aggregated results, de-identified examples, or anonymized case studies. We will ask separately before identifying you or your organization, or publishing a quotation, image, work sample, or confidential material. You confirm that you have the right to share the material you bring.

We retain ownership of our curriculum, templates, recordings, and original program materials. You may use those materials for your own learning and internal organizational work, but may not resell, publish, record, or substantially redistribute them without written permission.

8. Educational program and limits

The accelerator provides education, not legal, cybersecurity, financial, employment, or other regulated professional advice. AI systems and outputs may be incomplete, biased, or wrong. You and your organization remain responsible for decisions, policies, disclosures, and technology use. We do not promise a particular business, funding, employment, or performance outcome.

The certificate recognizes program completion. To receive it, you must attend all five live sessions and complete the final program survey. It is not an academic credit, professional license, or accredited credential. Not meeting the certificate requirements does not, on its own, entitle you to a refund or credit.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses related to the program, and our total liability will not exceed the program fees you paid. Nothing here limits rights or liability that cannot legally be limited.

Questions or updates

The version provided when you enroll controls your participation. We will clearly communicate material changes and will not apply them retroactively when consent is required. Questions, accommodation requests, privacy requests, or cancellation requests can be sent to programs@newdemocracystud.io.
